Windows administrators are pretty familiar with the Windows command line, or CMD. But even with Windows 7, CMD has not changed much since the release of Windows NT 4. You cannot cut and paste easily to or from the command line, you can’t really customize the display extensively, there is no history display for the input history. Also, the desktop gets cluttered easily when having more than 2 or 3 CMD windows open at once. Microsoft is pushing for the use of the Powershell command line or the Powershell Integrated Scripting Environment (Powershell ISE). But for now I just want to stick with the standard CMD. Some of my favorites are auto-complete while typing a command, a search filter for the input history, tabbed views and the allowance of multiple CMD windows inside of the program, and it integrates with the Windows shell (right-click wherever you are in Windows Explorer and will open a command line from that location).
