Word of Mouth Marketing

Posted in Marketing

Executive Summary

Word of mouth marketing is becoming more and more a vital part of a business’s marketing strategy.  Conventional marketing through television ads and billboards are becoming less effective and due to technological advances in the near past, word of mouth travels much faster than it did before.  Word of mouth marketing incorporates the use of people talking into effective buzz talk that stimulates sales.  With word of mouth marketing, you try to dictate what others will say about your product or service to their friends.

There are four rules that marketers using this strategy need to remember.  Rule one is to be interesting because if there is nothing to talk about, then no one will talk about you.  Rule two is to make it easy.  If the message that you want people to talk about is too long it will either get distorted as it is passed along or it simply will not get passed along.  Rule three is make people happy.  Happy customers are your best advertisers, because if they leave your business in a better mood than when they showed up then they will be much more inclined to talk positively to their friends about you.  Rule four is to earn trust and respect.  This to me is the most important of the rules because if someone does not trust you they will not use your product or services, and they will pass along negative feedback about your business.

How an Affiliate Marketing Niche can Impact a Website’s Success

Posted in Marketing

An affiliate marketing niche is a key element in the success of an affiliate marketer’s website.  Far too many upstart affiliate marketers will post a generic website advertising high demand products or services, and yet still flop after months without so much as a single click-through.  What are they doing wrong?  One of the most common mistakes affiliate marketers make when establishing their site is using a business model that puts them in direct competition with larger, more credible websites.  By broadly covering a common topic (an area that is already saturated with competition), an affiliate marketer will capture only a fraction of the traffic they could have if they had seized a well defined niche within that same market (an “affiliate marketing niche”).  This is how, in affiliate marketing, niche utilization can play a crucial role in a website’s success.

A Niche is an area within a market that has not yet been filled.  Niches develop with changes in the marketplace (i.e. when new products or services become available) and they fall out of favor when too many companies compete for that same niche market.  While, granted, new and exciting subject matter can be a fantastic niche for an affiliate marketer to focus on before other websites catch on, some of the strongest and longest lasting niches can be found as very specific topics within a popular market that has only broadly focused competition.

Most Important Benefit Word in Marketing

Posted in Marketing

What’s the most important word in marketing?

Free?

Why?

Truth?

Honesty?

Integrity?

At first glance, it seems like a simple question. But the more you think about it, the more complex it gets. One could probably argue any number of answers based on his beliefs, values or type of business.

But is there really one word that’s more important than all the others?
One word without which your marketing efforts will be successful?

I recently surveyed dozens of marketing professionals, authors, consultants and small business owners on my blog. The results included a wide range of words; from the emotionally charged to the pragmatic; from the right brain to the left brain and from the customer focused to the company focus. But all of the suggested “most important words in marketing” fell into one of two categories: Traditional Marketing or Modern Marketing.

Biggest Marketing Delusion Business

Posted in Marketing

One of the biggest marketing delusions most of us service business owners have suffered from is believing that we can market once in a while, and get all the clients our business needs. Rather than putting together a strategic marketing plan and marketing regularly, we only market when we have no work to do. We market in “fits and starts”, marketing furiously when business is slow, and ignoring marketing altogether when we are busy delivering services. Because of this lack of marketing planning and consistency, our business is prone to peaks and valleys of new business and revenue. There is no well-thought-out plan of cohesive activities, designed to keep our business name in front of our target market

That, however, is not the only “price” your business will pay when you only market occasionally and randomly. There are other costs to this approach.
