I stumbled upon while looking for information on the awesome open- source phone system software. I don’t have a great deal of time to go over this right now, but here is a bit of info on straight from :
“ is software that turns an ordinary computer into a voice communications server. powers IP PBX systems, VoIP gateways, conference servers and more. It is used by small businesses, large businesses, call centers, carriers and governments worldwide. Asterisk is free and open source. Asterisk is sponsored by .”
Did you see that very important word in the paragraph above? FREE!!! This is very enticing for a lot of reasons. For example, if you are a business and want to implement your own IP phone system, do you realize that every in-house phone system costs at least $10,000 for 10 extensions? Don’t even get me started on how much the Cisco offerings cost….
